The Art of Transformative Leadership: A Guide to African American Student Success

This session explores how transformative leadership practices that can improve the success of African American students. The panelists in this session draw from their recently published books to discuss leadership practices that are grounded in tenets of transformative leadership such as critical pedagogy, social justice, and decolonial pedagogy. The panel particularly focuses on the following: How can educational leaders in higher education settings apply the practices of turnaround principals to improve the student success of African American students? What are the stories of Department Chairs who lead departments with a social justice focus and how can this be applied to improving the student success of African American students? What do the experiences of African American students tells us about the need to decolonialize pedagogy and leadership?
